Fernando Torres has the chance to become the highest-paid footballer in the world, his agent Jose Antonio Martin said, according to The Sun.
The striker is currently on loan at Atlético Madrid from Milan until the end of the season and his agent has called on boss Diego Simeone to make his position on Torres clear.
“Fernando and Simeone should sit down and talk about it,” Martin said. “The fans of Madrid don’t want Torres to be told no continually. He has an offer that would make him the best-paid in the world. There are nuances. It all depends upon the will of the club.”
“He must either tell [Torres] ‘I am counting on you’ or ‘I am not counting on you’. The fans want his contract renewed and it is something that can’t be denied.”
Torres has registered just two goals and two asssist in 16 La Liga matches this season, being mainly used as a sub by Simeone. The Argentinian is a big fan of Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, who has hit the net 18 times so far, while also able to count on Jackson Martinez, Luciano Vietto and Angel Correa upfront.
Atletico are currently leading La Liga with 47 points, being in front of Barcelona (one game less) and Real Madrid. They have conceded just eight goals all season. Only German giants Bayern Munich have been as prolific on defence this season.
After leaving Liverpool in 2011 Torres has endured difficult periods at both Milan and Chelsea, before rejoining the club where it all began for him in January 2015. The Spaniard has won a number of big trophies during his career, including the world and European championships and the Champions League.
