Liverpool have been linked with a move for Southampton striker Shane Long, according to The Sun.
They have reported that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp wants to sign Long this month, and a £8 million bid could see the deal done. The Saints completed the signing of Charlie Austin from QPR and could allow the Irish international to leave the club if they receive a suitable offer.
Klopp is currently without Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi due to injuries and recently admitted that he is in the market for a striker.
He said: “Buying players is not too easy. We don’t have too many striking options that is true.
“It is the same with the centre-halves. Martin (Skrtel) will be a few weeks still. Dejan (Lovren), not fit. Mama (Sakho), problems. Kolo (Toure)? Experience. Very experienced! But he is great.
“So then we had to do something. We are always watching the offensive ends for what we can do. Probably, maybe or never. Then we have to make decisions about where we want to go.”
However, a lot of Liverpool fans are not happy with the rumours linking Long with a move to Anfield.
Not signing Inaki Williams for £15.3m but signing Shane Long for £8m would literally be the most Liverpool thing you could possibly do #LFC

Shane Long looking more likely for Liverpool, personally don’t think it’s a good signing.

Any Liverpool fan classifying Shane Long as a good signing, well and truly is lost. He’s NOT #LFC quality at all.

Caulker AND Shane Long? Does the Liverpool transfer committee only scout Southampton players?
