French publication France Football claimed that Manchester United officials held a meeting with Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola in Paris last week.
But, the BBC are now claiming that the Red Devils have confirmed to them that the reports are wide of the mark and the club has made no contact with the Spaniard.
The former Barcelona manager is in his last season with Bayern Munich and is expected to move to Premier League next season. All major clubs, including the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal, have been linked with his services, but he recently revealed that he hasn’t decided his future destination yet.
However, Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague believes that Pep already has a verbal agreement with Manchester City in place.
He tweeted: “On Pep and United. It is false they have met in Paris. As a friend just told me, why would United meet the next City manager? So not true Pep met United. He has agreed to join City but hasn’t signed yet. That’ll happen when Bayern-City is not possible in the CL.”
Guardiola has an expanded resume, winning every major trophy there is to win, including two UEFA Champions Leagues and three FIFA Club World Cups.
Bayern Munich held a training camp in Doha during the winter break and resumed their Bundesliga season by beating Hamburg 2-1. Robert Lewandowski scored twice for Bayern, who lead the league with 49 points after 18 matches, having dropped points just two times.
