Louis van Gaal isn’t a man of names. The Dutch manager has found a new way to refer to some of his players, among them Chris Smalling, as reported by The Daily Mail.
The United boss famously called the England defender “Mike” at a press conference on the Red Devils’ pre-season tour in July and blundered again by calling Smalling “Michael” after the win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in Novembre.
Van Gaal is done with making mistakes and has revealed calling Smalling “Pele” from now on, after the Brazilian legend. “I said to ‘Mike’ Smalling that I call him Pele because he had a fantastic move so it is easier to call him Pele now.”
This week, the Dutchman failed to call one of his players’ by his correct first name again. He referred to Will Keane by the name of his twin brother Michael Keane. “Now Michael Keane has to do it by himself. Or Will Keane. Michael is an easy name for me!” Let’s wait and see with what name van Gaal comes up for Keane.
