Football management is a high-pressure job. And in football, pressure can bring out the worst in anyone. Even the likes of Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez! Watch our list of top five rants from Premier League managers.
5) Joe Kinnear (Newcastle United):
The former Newcastle manager blurted out 52 swear words in five minutes during the 2008-09 season. Now that will take some beating.
4) Ian Hollaway (Blackpool)
This one was one of the funniest press conferences by a football manager. Hollaway went on a rant about FIFA, UEFA, Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini. He went on to call the former UEFA President “useless” in this one.
3) Kevin Keegan (Newcastle United)
Kevin Keegan lost his cool after Newcastle lost their grip on the title race during 1995-1996 season, having led Manchester United by 12 points at the start of February.
2) Rafa Benitez (Liverpool)
The second spot goes to the famous Rafa Benitez’s ‘facts’ rant about Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson during the 2008-09 season.
For some reason, Sir Alex used to bring out the worst in his counterparts.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard recently admitted in his autobiography that Benitez’s rant left him embarrassed.
1) Jose Mourinho (Chelsea)
This one is fresh in memory. Following the 1-3 home defeat against Southampton, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho blamed each and everything under the Sun for his team’s performance. A couple of months later, he was sacked from his job.
