Arsenal have been jolted by their superstar Mesut Ozil’s refusal to sign a new contract, according to the latest reports.
The German playmaker, who joined the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013, has refused the new contract on the table from the North London club, according to Spanish publication Marca.
The report claims that Ozil has become disillusioned with the club’s ambitions and doesn’t believe that they can challenge for the Champions League in the near future.
The Spanish news outlet are also claiming that Primera Division giants Barcelona are interested in the World Cup winner and have already discussed a possible summer move with the player’s representatives.
The Catalan club hold a long-term interest in Ozil, as they tried to sign him in 2010 before he decided to join La Liga rivals Real Madrid.
Ozil joined Arsenal in a club-record £42 million deal in 2013. His current deal with the club expires in 2018.
This season, the 27-year-old has been nearly unstoppable for the Gunners. He has provided a Premier League leading 16 assists so far, leading his team to a joint second place in the table.
