Since the year 2015 has been behind us for more than a month, let’s look at the players who’ve scored most since the new year began.
Leading the way in 2016 are two players from Portuguese Liga NOS. Both Benfica’s Jonas and Sporting’s Islam Slimani have registered eight goals in six league appearances since January 1.
Three players have hit the net seven times. First up is Primera Division’s Eibar forward Borja Bostan, scoring one goal every 53 minutes. Real Madrid’s star Karim Benzema sits at one goal every 55 minutes. And than there’s Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain, who has scored 23 goals in 23 matches all season, with seven goals in six matches in 2016.
Four players sit at six goals this year. One of them is Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, as the Argentinian has averaged one goal every 73 minutes this year.
He’s joined by Barcelona’s superstar Lionel Messi, who has also scored six goals in five appearances. But Messi averages a goal every 68 minutes.
Vincent Janssen from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar has registered six goals in only four matches, with Bruno Moreira from Portugues side Pacos de Fereira scoring six goals in six appearances.
Next up are a bunch of players with five goals in 2016. Two of them play in the Premier League: Wayne Rooney and Jermaine Defoe. Both have made five appearances this year, giving them one goal every 90 minutes.
Other big names at this level are Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, with the Welshmen having one of the best goal per minute ratio’s, scoring every 42 minutes.
