According to the latest news reports, Arsenal are closing in on two big signings. However, the Gunners are also on the brink of losing the battle for their biggest transfer target.
Arsenal are close to completing a £35.3 million move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, with the Switzerland international keen on a Premier League move, according to German news outlet Bild.
The 23-year-old has impressed with his play for the Swiss national team and in the Bundesliga, where he has scored three goals in 22 appearances in a role as midfield regulator.
The Gunners are reportely also ready to sign Dynamo Kyiv winger Andriy Yarmolenko after being impressed with the 26-year-old’s performances for his club and for the Ukrainian national team, according to The Independent.
Everton and Liverpool have also been rumoured to be interested, but Arsenal have been in pole position to sign Yarmolenko for quite some time. He is rated at £25 million by his club.
However, Arsenal are about to lose out on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. According to Bild, Real Madrid will offer £55 million plus Alvaro Morata, who they plan to buy back from Juventus, to Borussia Dortmund for the Gabon striker who has scored 35 goals in 40 appearances this season.
Los Blancos main target was Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, but Bild (via AS) claim the Polish striker has put to bed rumours of a switch to Real Madrid or Manchester United by signing a contract extension with the Bundesliga champions, which ties him to the club until 2021.
