Arsenal have been dealt a massive setback in their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.
Arsene Wenger was reportedly interested in signing the 34-year-old player once he becomes a free agent in the summer. However, the move looks unlikely now as the player intends to stay at Old Trafford beyond this season, as the United star is interested in signing a new deal with the Red Devils in the summer according to the latest reports.
The Sun claims that Carrick has turned down a £6 million-a-year to move to the Chinese Super League and wants to sign a 12-month extension with at Old Trafford.
The England international has been one of the standout performers for Louis Van Gaal’s side this season, and he is confident that he can still offer a lot to the club he signed for from Tottenham in 2006.
Carrick has made 29 appearances, including 21 league appearances, for United this season. He has won five Premier League titles and one Champions League title during his time with the Red Devils.
