Will Arsenal be able to eliminate Barcelona in the round of 16 of the Champions League when they play the Blaugrana at the Camp Nou on March 16?
That question looms over the Gunners, but if history repeats itself, Arsene Wenger’s team has no chance to straighten their 2-0 defeat at the Emirates.
The Daily Mail looked at the Primera Division giants’ Champions League encounters with Premier League teams, and found out that only Chelsea have been able to triumph against Barcelona since the 2008-2009 season.
The Blues shocked the world by eliminating Barcelona in their 2012 semi-final meeting, winning 1-0 at Stamford Bridge and fighting to gain a 2-2 draw on the road.
In fact, Chelsea are the only English team that have really made it difficult on the Catalan club, including being a very late Andres Iniesta 1-1 equalizer away from eliminating Barcelona in their 2009 semi-final matchup.
The likes of Manchester United and Manchester City have both failed to triumph againt Barcelona on two occasions. The Red Devils lost the 2009 and 2011 finals, 2-0 and 3-1 respectively, while the Citizens were eliminated in the 2014 and 2015 round of 16, 3-1 and 4-1 on aggregate.
The Gunners faced Barcelona in a 2010 quarter-final, only to lose 6-3 on aggregate. Therefore, Arsenal have the odds against them… Big time!
