Chelsea have joined Premier League rivals Manchester United in the pursuit of Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi. The 23-year old’s form for Inter during the last two seasons has attracted the attentions of a number of major European clubs.
The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have been previously linked with the Argentine, and now Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport, via Goal.com, has claimed that Chelsea have also joined the chase for the player.
Icardi has previously stated his desire to stay with Inter beyond this season. However, the report claims that he will look to leave the club if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
The Nerazzurri are currently placed fifth in the Serie A table, five points adrift of the Champions League places.
He was Serie A’s top goal scorer last year with 22 goals and was appointed as the captain of the club by manager Roberto Mancini at the start of the current season.
He has failed to reach similar levels this season and has managed only 11 league goals in 24 appearances, as the Argentine is valued at £31 million by the Serie A giants.
