Mohammed Lawalb, agent of highly-rated striker Umar Sadiq, has confirmed that Premier League club Arsenal have discussed the possibility of signing his client during the summer.
The 19-year-old striker is currently playing for Serie A giants AS Roma, as he joined the club from Serie B side Spezia on a season-long loan last summer.
The youth Nigerian international has impressed with his form for Roma’s youth team this season by scoring 16 goals in 16 appearances. His performances led him to progress to the senior squad, and he made his senior debut against Genoa in December. He has also scored two league goals in six appearances for the senior squad.
Italian source La Repubblica, as reported by Metro, previously claimed that the Gunners have seen an initial bid of £10.25 million rejected for the 19-year-old. However, another source, All Nigeria Soccer, claims that Gunners are prepared to place an improved bid in the region of £15.7 million to secure the services of the youngster.
Lawalb’s latest comments have given credence to the rumours that the North London club are interested in signing the player.
“Yes, we have been approached by Arsenal,” he said, as quoted by Metro. “But they are not the only team interested in Sadiq as Borussia Dortmund are also pushing for him.
“In the coming days or weeks we will know where he is heading to, but for now, he is very happy and focused at Roma.”
