West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna is having an impressive debut season in Premier League.
The Italian international, who signed for the Hammers from Juventus for £8.25 million in summer, has made 22 appearances for the London club this season.
According to the Times, his performances have attracted the attention of Manchester United and Manchester City, and both clubs are set to start a bidding war for the player next summer.
Both Manchester club are in need of defensive reinforcements and are expected to sign at least one centre-back during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils hold a long-term interest in Ogbonna, as they attempted to sign the 27-year-old in 2012 but refused to pay Torino’s asking price of £16 million. A year later, Ogbonna signed for Serie A giants Juventus in a £10 million deal.
Ogbonna spent two seasons with the Turin club and made 41 league appearances. He won two Serie A titles during his time with the Old Lady and was present on the substitutes’ bench in their Champions League final against Barcelona last season, which they lost 3-1.
