We have seen some superb individual performances this season. But who leads the chart with the most number of Man of the Match performances?
We take a look at top five Premier League players with most MOTM awards this season. This list has been compiled based on the data from WhoScored.
5. Dimitri Payet (West Ham United), Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal), Nicolas Otamendi (Man City), Romelu Lukaku (Everton), Robbie Brady (Norwich City); Huerelho Gomes (Watford) – 4
Six players share the fifth spot with four MOTM appearances each.
Payet has been a revelation ever since his move to West Ham in the summer. He has carried the London club on his shoulders at times and has helped them to the fifth spot in the league. Sanchez has struggled for form ever since his return from the injury. However, his performances in the first part of the season were enough to give him a spot.
Meanwhile, Lukaku has hit the net 18 times for Everton, Gomes has kept a slate on 10 occasions, Otamendi has been City’s defensive enforcer in Vincent Kompany’s absence and Brady has been outstanding on Norwich’s left wing.
4. Ashley Williams (Swansea City), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Roberto Firmino (Liverpool) – 5
Swansea City have struggled this season, but their skipper has performed consistently throughout the season. The Wales club have achieved success in their recent games and have pulled away from the relegation pack.
Kane started the season slowly, but once he started firing he has shown no signs of slowing down. He has already scored 17 goals this season.
Firmino struggled to find his feet in Premier League in the earlier stages of the season, following his move from Bundesliga. Things changed for good after the arrival of Jurgen Klopp, and he has been the best performer for the Reds in the recent games.
3. Mesut Ozil (Arsenal), Odion Ighalo (Watford) – 6
The German playmaker has been the standout performer for the Gunners this season. He has scored five goals and provided 18 assists. He is well on his way to breaking Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a season.
Ighalo’s performances for the Hornets have seen him linked with a move to Premier League heavyweights Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal. The Nigerian international has scored 14 league goals this season.
2. Virgil van Dijk (Southampton) – 7
The Dutchman has cemented his spot in Ronald Koeman’s squad following his summer move from Celtic. He has performed commendably in the Saints’ defence and has also chipped in with three goals.
1. Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City) – 8
The Algerian international has arguably been the best performer in Premier League this season. He has scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists for the Foxes this season. He is the favourite to win Player of the Season accolade.
