Arsenal are preparing to make a bid for Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante, after it emerged that the France international has a £20 million release clause in his contract, according to The Daily Mail.
Kante was recently nominated as one of the six candidates to win the Premier League’s Player of the Year award, together with team-mates Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, and West Ham’s Dimitri Payet.
The 25-year-old signed for the Foxes from French side Caen for £5.6 million last summer, when a £20 million release clause seemed realistic and was put into his contract, but Kante’s value has skyrocketed due to his stellar performances for the current Premier League leaders.
His now deemed bargain price could attract the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus into making a bid for a player who recently made his debut for the France national team, but Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham have all been rumoured to be very interested as well.
The Gunners are actively searching for midfield reinforcements and could activate Kante’s release clause to bring him to the Emirates this summer. However, Leicester are expecting to fetch between £30 and 35 million for their star midfielder.
Still, Arsenal are seriously considering making a move. If they are ever going to win the title again, they need to be stronger defensively, and Kante could be the solution to that problem.
