Manchester City got away with an easy 4-0 home win against Stoke City, with two goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and one from both Sergio Aguero and Fernando.
The Citizens, for now, jumped over Arsenal and are currently ranked third in the Premier League with 64 points from 35 matches. If the Gunners beat Sunderland on Sunday, they’ll reclaim that third spot, dropping City to fourth.
However, we’ve discovered a dirty little secret during City’s season in the English top flight. In recent years, the Citizens performed well in the Premier League and pretty bad in Europe. This season, they’ve reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, facing Real Madrid in the first leg on Tuesday.
But that success has had its consequences in the Premier League, as City have been unable to win any of their 11 fixtures against the top seven teams: Leicester, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham, and Liverpool.
These have been their results so far, with only a home encounter with Arsenal remaining:
Versus Leicester : 0-0 (A) 1-3 (H)
Versus Tottenham: 4-1 (A) en 1-2 (H)
Versus Arsenal: 2-1 (A)
Versus Manchester United: 0-0 (A) en 0-1 (H)
Versus West Ham: 2-2 (A) en 1-2 (H)
Versus Liverpool: 3-0 (A) en 1-4 (H)
This means City have picked up just three out of a possible 33 points against their biggest league rivals this season, drawing three teams and losing on eight occasions. They even lost all of their home fixtures, getting those draws in away matches! Now that’s some dirty little secret…
