Mesut Ozil is leading the way this season with 18 assists in the Premier League. The German playmaker even leads all players in the five biggest European competitions (England, Italy, Spain, Germany, France).
The Arsenal star is also featured in Europe’s top ten assists leaders since the 2012/2013 season, together with three other current Premier League playmakers (via OptaJean).
10. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (PSG) – 38
The Swede is proving that these days strikers are more than goalscorers. Ibrahimovic has scored a leading 32 league goals this season, but has also provided 38 assists the past four seasons.
9. Luis Suarez (Barcelona) – 43
Ibrahimovic has not been the lone striker who’s also been featured as a playmaker. Just look at the assist total from Suarez: 43. The Uruguay international has provided 26 assists for Barcelona since arriving in 2014.
8. Dimitri Payet (West Ham) – 44
There he is again. It’s been no surprise Payet was nominated as one of six players to win the 2016 Player of the Year award during his first Premier League season. However, he performed for Marseille as well as he has provided 44 assists since 2012.
7. Angel Di Maria (PSG) – 45
Four players have provided 45 assists during the past four seasons, and are ranked by age. Di Maria flopped at Manchester United, but proved to be killer at Real Madrid and PSG.

Spain’s national team is moving on from it’s golden generation, but their search for a new playmaker has been easy. Koke has provided 45 assists for Atletico Madrid during the past four seasons.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – 46
Time for the three best playmakers. Ronaldo comes away with the bronze medal, providing 46 assists for Real Madrid. Proving once again he’s much more than a guy that scores a lot of goals.
2. Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea) – 46
Look who’s there: Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard has played a pedestrian season at Chelsea, with only four assists so far. But since 2012, Fabregas has provided 46 assists for the Blues and Barcelona.
1. Lionel Messi (Barcelona) – 51
Ronaldo and Fabregas have been great, but no one can really touch Messi when it comes to providing assists. The Barcelona legend sits at a total of 51 assists the past four seasons, including ten this season.
