Bayern Munich have completed the transfer of 18-year-old Portugal international Renato Sanches, as Benfica have agreed terms bringing the midfielder to the Bundesliga for the start of the 2016/17 season.
Sanches rates as one of the most talented young players in European football after making his senior debut for Benfica this season. He has made 23 senior league appearances for his club this season.
The player completed the obligatory pre-transfer medical in Munich on Monday before signing a five-year contract binding him to the German champions until 2021.
“Renato is dynamic, a good tackler and a technically skilled midfielder who’ll add even more strength to our team,” said Bayern’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on the club’s website. Bayern will pay £27.6 million plus performance related bonuses for the 18-year-old, who was rumoured to come to Barcelona or Manchester United, as the Red Devils were reportedly ready to pay £60 million for his services.
