Manchester City have sealed a £40 million deal for Schalke star Leroy Sane, beating the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United to his signature.
According to a report by The Sun, the Citizens have secured their second big summer signing for incoming coach Pep Guardiola, after signing midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund earlier this month.
Once again, Man City looked to the Germany Bundesliga and found Sane, who is one of the most highly rated young players in Germany and Europe.
Sane has scored 13 times for Schalke in 55 Bundesliga appearances since breaking into the first team in 2014. He has three caps for Germany and was named in Joachim Low’s squad for Euro 2016.
It is said City have been trying to seal a deal for Sane since the start of the year, having scouted him on numerous occasions last season.
Meanwhile, one transfer target who won’t be arriving at City is Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte. The French centre-back, who missed Euro 2016 due to injury, has long been reported as being high on Guardiola’s wish list but has now put pen to paper on a new contract in Spain, according to ESPN FC.
