Middlesbrough forced their way back to the Premier League, securing promotion to England’s top flight for the first time since the 2008/2009 season.
The Boro are primed for a summer transfer spree as they need to upgrade their squad to stay alive next season. Therefore, they have been linked with two veteran players.
According to a report by The Sun, Middlesbrough are eyeing a £6 million move for Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel as they plan for their first campaign back in the Premier League.
The 31-year-old centre-back has become frustrated by a lack of playing time at Anfield, making 28 appearances in all competitions this season, and wants to leave after eight seasons with the Reds.
In addition, Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka wants to bring Sevilla striker Fernando Llorente to the club this summer, according to Spanish outlet AS.
The 31-year-old won the Europa League this season, after joining the La Liga club on a free transfer last summer from Juventus. Llorente scored seven goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla.
However, Middlesbrough may not be able to keep loan star Gaston Ramirez, who looks set to be heading back to Uruguay to join Penarol, according to The Daily Star.
The 25-year-old provided seven goals and four assists for the Boro after joining them on loan from Southampton during the winter transfer window, playing a key part in their promotion to the Premier League.
