Arsenal are desperately searching for a world class striker in the transfer market, but have been unable to land any kind of deal so far.
The North London club has been heavily linked with Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette recently, after Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy rejected a move to the Emirates.
However, the Gunners are not planning to pay Higuain’s release clause of £78.5 million, which is the only way Napoli are going to part ways with the 28-year-old.
Now, Arsenal seem to have turned their attention to Inter’s Mauro Icardi. The striker’s wife and agent, Wanda Icardi, has made it clear she wants an improved contract for the 23-year-old, otherwise the Nerazzurri risk of losing their star striker, according to Corriere dello Sport (via Football-Italia).
Recently, she revealed that Arsenal had enquired about the availability of the Argentinean striker, while Wanda also dropped the names of clubs like Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, Napoli, and AS Roma. On top, also Juventus have been linked with a move for Icardi.
However, Arsenal are thought to be the first team who are ready to make a formal bid for the 23-year-old, offering wages of £5 million per season, as well as preparing a bid of £41.7 million to convince the Serie A giants.
The report claims Arsene Wenger will meet with Icardi’s agent as the pair look to finalise terms on the deal taking the striker from Inter to Arsenal.
