Chelsea have reportedly won their pursuit of Zenit St Petersburg Axel Witsel, according to the Sun.
Everton were in the pole position to sign the Belgium international, but according to the report the Blues have hijacked their move by agreeing on personal terms with the player. The West London club will now start negotiating a transfer fee for the player with Zenit.
The 27-year-old, who moved to Zenit in a £32 million move four years ago, has only one year left on his current deal with the Russian club. His contract situation means that he could be signed on a cut-price deal this summer. Serie A clubs Juventus, AC Milan, AS Roma, and Napoli were also reportedly interested in the central midfielder.
Meanwhile, Serie A champions Juventus have approached Chelsea for winger Juan Cuadrado, according to Sky Italia. The Colombia international spent last season on loan with the Turin club before returning to the club in summer.
Reports have suggested that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants the winger to be part of his squad next season. However, according to the report, the Old Lady are trying to extend the 28-year-old’s loan by another year for £1.7 million, with a mandatory option to buy him for £19 million next year.
