Both Chelsea and Liverpool are trying to lure in a Brazilian starlet, after Manchester City were able to secure the services of Gabriel Jesus earlier this week.
Antonio Conte is preparing a £15 million move for Santos midfielder Thiago Maia, pending the player’s performances at this summer’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, according to Yahoo Sports Brazil.
The 19-year-old midfielder has a contract until 2019 but is willing to move to Europe. Unlike most Brazilian youngsters, Maia’s ownership rights are pretty straightforward, with Santos owning 100 per cent of the player’s economic rights.
Chelsea were also interested in another Santos starlet, Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa, but the 19-year-old forward is primed to make a move to either Juventus, Inter or Barcelona this summer.
Talking about Serie A, the Blues are said to be still waiting on Napoli’s response to their offer for Kalidou Koulibaly. A report by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via the Daily Express) suggests Conte’s side have made a £38 million bid for the Senegal international.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have set their sights on an older prospect – 23-year-old forward Luan Vieira from Gremio. However, Catalan outlet Sport (via talkSPORT) claim the Brazilian club have rejected an approach from the Reds, while the €22 million-rated attacker is also being monitored by Barcelona.
Luan scored 17 goals for Gremio last season, but it seems his club is unwilling to sell him this summer.
