Many English Premier League clubs are currently extremely active in the transfer market, with one of those being Manchester City. Over the course of the last week the club have signed three talented attacking players to significantly strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
In addition to recruiting the German internationalist winger Leroy Sane from Schalke for £37m, City have also brought in the South American striking duo of Gabriel Jesus and Marlos Moreno, from Palmeiras and Atletico Nacional respectively.
After making his debut for Schalke in April of 2014, Sane’s development into one of the most exciting young wingers in Europe rapidly accelerated, so much so that he earned his first call-up to Germany’s senior international squad towards the end of last year, at the age of just 19.
Now 20-years-old Sane, who scored eight goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Schalke last season, is still developing, whilst there is no doubt that he already has all of the raw attributes required to enjoy a successful first season in English football.
Blessed with creative flair, great technical ability and searing pace, whilst being extremely comfortable in possession and hard-working, Sane possesses all of the qualities required to quickly establish himself as a key member of Pep Guardiola’s talented squad.
So too do Guardiola’s other two recent attacking signings, particularly Gabriel Jesus, who City signed on a five-year contract from Palmeiras for £27m. Nevertheless Jesus has returned to the Brazilian club on loan until January.
The 19-year-old Brazilian winger, who scored 26 goals in 67 appearances for Palmeiras and was named as the best newcomer to the Brazilian top flight last season, is currently playing for his country at the Rio Olympics.
One of Jesus’ best quality’s is his attacking versatility as he is capable of operating in any position along the frontline, whilst playing with composure, elegance and skill, has resulted in him being compared to his superstar Brazilian compatriot Neymar. As such, just as Jesus’ elder statesman is doing at Barcelona, he has the potential to forge an extremely successful career for himself in European football with Manchester City.
Another player who is aiming to achieve that is Guardiola’s most recent signing Marlos Moreno. Despite being just 19-years-old, Moreno has already earned seven senior international caps for his country Columbia, whilst also having scored for Los Cafeteros against Costa Rica in the recent Copa America.
After signing Moreno from the Columbian club Atletico National – with whom the player won a Catergoria Primera A title, as well as the Superliga Columbia and the much coveted Copa Libertadores – Guardiola made the decision to loan the player to Deportivo La Coruna.
Subsequently Moreno, whose is naturally a striker but can also play well as a winger, is set to stay with the La Liga side for the entire 2016-2017 season. As such, City supporters will require to wait a considerably period of time to see either Moreno or Jesus make their debuts for the club.
City’s bright future prospects
Nevertheless the South American duo are undoubtedly bright prospects for the future. So too is Sane but the highly talented German winger is likely to almost immediately begin playing an important role for City, who will play their first game of the new season against Sunderland on 13 August.
As such in signing a trio of superb young attackers, Guardiola now has a wealth of talented attacking options available to him, with players such as Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva already at the club prior to the Spanish manager’s arrival last month.
