Manchester City have completed the signing of Germany midfielder Leroy Sane from Schalke 04 for a fee of £37 million plus add-ons, according to the club’s website.
— Manchester City (@ManCity) 2 augustus 2016
The 20-year-old signed a five-year contract after scoring eight goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season. “He is a special talent and an exciting player that I think our supporters will enjoy watching,” City manager Pep Guardiola said.
“I think he can make me a more complete player,” said Sane. I think I will need a bit of time to start with because it’s another league and there’s a different style of play, but I think I can adapt very quickly.”
On Twitter, the reactions were mixed, with many people referring to how Manchester United’s deal for Anthony Martial was deemed too expensive while the Sane deal is not.
So happy that this signing has been finalised. Every day I’m getting more and more exited for next season #WelcomeLeroy

Guardiola likes wingers who can decide games so Sané no surprise in that sense, but a big fee for a man still short of enough big moments.

Man City have signed Leroy Sane for £37m.

BILD suggesting €55m for Leroy Sane. An absolutely baffling amount of money for Man City to pay for no more than potential.

So #City have signed Sane, I do feel a bit sorry for Sterling. Not had a good season but still only 21. Hopefully this improves him.

Leroy Sane is an unreal signing for Man City.

Leroy Sané to #MCFC feels like a significant transfer, young players coached in Germany should improve the Premier League tactically

Prayin to never see a staring lineup with Navas name on it, Sané gonna have that wing on lock🙏🏽

City have signed a good one in Sane.Should make Pep’s mission a bit easier.

Quite an outrage when ManUtd bought Martial for the same £ that City spent on Sane, which obviously won’t get any headline coz of Pogba..

If Pep can man manage Sterling and get him terrorising full backs again we will have a fantastic strike force this season with Sane added!⚽️
— Lewys Thomas (@lewysthomas11) 2 augustus 2016
City got a potentially WC player in Sane while we got a pace merchant Mane for around the same money. The difference an alphabet can make.

Man City signing Sané, great signing. Will shine, only 20-21 I believe, lots of potential. Likes to cut in.

Could see some disharmony at City this season. So many att. mid./ wingers: KDB, Nasri, Sterling, Nolito, Sane, Jesus Navas, Delph.

Sane to city is a banging signing
— Lewis Gibbons (@gibbybfc) 2 augustus 2016
Sane cost more than Martial and nowhere near as good
— Abbas (@AbbasSyed23) 2 augustus 2016
Martial was poor in Ligue 1. Sané was a standout at 19 in the Bundesliga. What makes United fans think he won’t succeed?
— Harry (@VivaLaSergio) 2 augustus 2016
Sane and Martial on the wings would have been so elite but for City its a very good piece of business, went under the radar a little too.
— Deano99 (@dean_markey) 2 augustus 2016
I think Sané will be successful in the Premier League. He fits the style of play. Looking forward to see him play.

All the Newspapers saying Leroy Sane is worth every penny, yet Martial was the biggest waste of money in football history. 😂😂

Sane is signing of the season. #MCFC
— Andrew Hannah (@andrewhannah99) 2 augustus 2016
Sane joins City for £37m – Media: Good signing
Martial joins United for £36m – Media: What a waste of money
— Andrew (@Zlatandrew) 2 augustus 2016
£37m for Sanè plus add ons but I’m sure he won’t get the ‘waste of money’ headlines Martial got.
— JC (@JustCantona) 2 augustus 2016
Martial, £36m plus add ons
Sane, £37m plus adds ons
One described as a waste of money, the other hailed as brilliant business.

Dembélé (17) & Martial (16) were the only U21 players to score or assist more goals than Sané (14) in Europe’s top 5 leagues last season.
