Newcastle striker Ba subject of Liverpool interest

By James McLean

Monday 09 January 2012

The Metro is reporting that Newcastle striker Demba Ba has caught the attention of Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish. The former West Ham goalscorer has aided the Toon Army’s impressive early season form with 15 goals thus far, and recent press talk about Ba’s reported £10m release clause at St. James’ Park has attracted the attention of the Kop.

Liverpool have found themselves short of striking options recently, largely due to the suspension of Luis Suarez as well as Dirk Kuyt and former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll finding themselves somewhat starved of goals during the current campaign. Nick Howson at givemefootball.com speculates that a deal during the January transfer window may be unlikely due to the Senegalese international’s attendance at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has also moved to quell claims of a move for the 26-year-old, who only joined Newcastle in June. He said: “He's a Newcastle player, he has been brilliant for us and that's all I want to say, really.”
