Slovakia international Marek Hamsik claims he is set to sign a new deal at Serie A outfit Napoli despite continued interest from Chelsea, according to givemefootball.com. The 24-year-old has built a reputation as one of Europe’s leading footballers, and has impressed in the Champions League as well as domestic competition, where Napoli presently lie sixth.

Manchester City have also reportedly been interested in signing the player, but he claims that a new deal is on the table and ready to be signed at the Stadio San Paolo, stating following his side’s 1-0 victory over Palermo: “Everything is agreed, all that is missing is the signature.”

Hamsik’s agent had previously stated that bids from the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona would be welcomed, and as a result it is likely that the player’s comments come as something of a surprise to the likes of Andreas Villas-Boas, who will now have to turn his attentions elsewhere in an effort to bring another new player to Stamford Bridge alongside the likely signing of Bolton defender Gary Cahill during the present transfer window.

I hope we sign him but it's unlikely until the summer with him being cup tied for the champs lg, he'll understandably want to play for Napoli in that and if he signs a new contract, so what, it'll only make a tad more cash for Napoli who, with Champs lg still to play for and 6th in lg so champs lg qualification to play for too will want to keep hold of one of their best players and simply get more for him come summer.
