Arsenal set to miss out on Biglia

Thursday 27 September 2012

Arsene Wenger’s desire to replace Alex Song with Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia has been dealt a blow by the news the Argentina international is open to a move back to his homeland with Boca Juniors, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The 26-year-old was said to be on Wenger’s shortlist to replace Song, who joined Barcelona this summer, but Biglia appears to have his heart set on the prospect of playing for Boca. He told the Argentinean media that he would welcome the interest from Boca, particularly as he already knows the club’s Coach - Julio Cesar Falcioni - very well.

Arsenal are not the first Premier League club to express an interest in the former Independiente player, either, as the Mirror claims Norwich City were previously keen on Biglia and attempted to bring him to Carrow Road with a doomed loan approach.

Biglia has made a handful of appearances for the Argentina national team since his debut in 2011, and has won three Belgian league titles for Andelecht, as well as the Belgian Cup in almost 200 appearances for the club.
