Chamakh offered Arsenal escape route

Saturday 13 October 2012

Arsenal mistfit Marouane Chamakh could finally be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium with former club Bordeaux confirming their interest in the Moroccan striker, according to the Metro.

Marouane Chamakh

Chamakh led Bordeaux to the 2008-09 Ligue 1 title, before helping the club reach the Champions League quarter finals the following season, performances which convinced Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to pursue the target-man for two seasons before finally getting his man upon the expiration of his contract at the French club.

However, after an impressive start to life in North London which saw Chamakh hit 11 goals by November, the Moroccan's form took a desperate turn for the worse after the return to fitness of Robin Van Persie in December 2010. Indeed, the last time Chamakh found the net for the Gunners was in September 2011.

With the arrival of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud this summer, Chamakh has not even been awarded a place on the substitutes bench so far this term, leaving the route clear for him to return to France.

“Chamakh could return,” said Bordeaux’s preside Jean-Louis Triaud. “There is a serious chance. It is feasible for us and him but the choice is down to Arsenal. If he’s not happy then we are in a position to talk about it. “
