Sahin compares Liverpool boss Rodgers to Dortmund’s Klopp

Nuri Sahin has hailed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and compared him to Borussia Dortmund’s all-conquering manager Jurgen Klopp. The Turkish midfielder, on-loan at Anfield from Real Madrid, played under Klopp at Dortmund and starred in the outfit’s 2010-11 Bundesliga title-winning team, just three seasons after the North Rhine-Westphalia club finished a lowly 13th.

Liverpool have struggled so far this season as new coach Rodgers attempts to implement his own passing philosophy on the side, who currently lie 14th and without a league win at Anfield thus far.

However, according to the Daily Mirror, Sahin believes that the new manager must be given time to lay the necessary foundations needed to take Liverpool to the next level.

It will take time to take Liverpool back to where it wants to be,” said Sahin.

When Klopp came [to Dortmund], we did not have a squad to be champions. He changed a lot, bringing his own philosophy in. It took a while for everybody to follow it.

He had to be calm and consistent. If you go on this way, in the first two or three weeks, OK, you might not get the results, but in the long term it will go your way if you don’t change it.

Sahin, who has recovered from a slow start to his Anfield career to score three goals in his last three starts for the Reds, went on to favourably compare Rodgers’ character to his former boss at Dortmund.

As a character, [Klopp] is a person who relates to the player. I can see Brendan doing the same. Brendan’s character was very influential in me coming here.

Liverpool have an opportunity to finally get off the winning mark at Anfield as they take on newly-promoted and currently winless in the Premier League Reading on Saturday afternoon.
