Mannone to continue as Arsenal No 1 after injury setbacks to Polish duo

Thursday 18 October 2012

Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone is set to continue in his role between the sticks for the foreseeable future. The Desio-born stopper has deputised for five out of the Gunners’ seven Premier League fixtures so far with Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski both absent through injury.

However, according to the Daily Mirror, Fabianski, who had hoped to make the Arsenal squad for their league encounter with Norwich this Saturday, suffered ankle ligament damage in training and could be ruled out for a further three months.

Fabianski’s Polish counterpart Szczesny has not been seen in an Arsenal shirt since making a costly error in his side’s 6-1 victory over Southampton. However, the man who began the season as the Gunners’ first choice remains a few weeks away from fitness after an ankle problem of his own.

Arsenal will look to continue their side’s unbeaten start on the road with a trip to Norwich on Saturday afternoon, who are without a win in the Premier League so far this season under Chris Hughton.
