Macheda’s Man Utd future in doubt

Federico Macheda looks set to exit Manchester United after falling out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old Italian burst onto the scene in the 2008-09 season when dramatic late winners against Aston Villa and Sunderland helped give the Red Devils the Premier League title ahead of rivals Liverpool.

However, since then, Macheda has struggled to make an impression and has only scored three goals in the last three seasons, with his last appearance for the club coming on Boxing Day last season.

He wants to play and if he cannot do so by January then we’ll try to find an alternative solution”, the Manchester Evening News reports Macheda’s representative Giovanni Bia to have said.

After unproductive loan spells at Sampdoria and Queens Park Rangers, the Italy Under-21 international now appears to lie behind Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in the forward pecking order.

United welcome Stoke City to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, looking to bounce back from their previous home encounter, which saw Ferguson’s side crash to their first defeat to Tottenham in 23 years.
