Tottenham midfielder Parker facing absence until Christmas

Scott Parker is facing a lay-off of more than two months as the Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder continues to recover from surgery on his Achilles, the Guardian has reported.

Parker underwent the operation in early August and it had originally been hoped he would be fit and ready to return by the start of October. But Andre Villas-Boas, the Tottenham Head Coach, revealed Parker has struggled with his recuperation and a series of further problems have severely delayed his scheduled comeback.

It has gotten to the point that Parker could be looking at a spell on the sidelines that lasts until Christmas, more four months after surgery. The Guardian adds that Parker has not played a competitive game of football since England exited Euro 2012 against Italy at the quarter-final stage on June 24.

Villas-Boas said: “It's difficult for him as he still feels pain and is still disturbed in his recovery. It prevents him from being on the pitch but he has been evolving inside, in the gym, with the medical department. We could be looking at Christmas, although hopefully less.

There was better news for Tottenham full-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who had been bothered by a knee injury, but Villas-Boas confirmed the Cameroonian would be back in training in less than two weeks.
