West Ham v Southampton - Match preview and team news

Upton Park hosts a clash between two newly-promoted sides that will both be desperate for a welcome three points in their quest to remain in the Premier League.

Sam Allardyce’s West Ham had enjoyed an unbeaten home record before their defeat to Arsenal before the international break but will remain confident of dispatching a Southampton side who have lost heavily in each of their fixtures on the road so far this season.

The Hammers will be without striker Ricardo Vaz Te after he was ruled out for three months following surgery on a dislocated shoulder picked up against the Gunners, while doubts remain over defenders Winston Reid (back) and Guy Demel (thigh).

Allardyce will be able to call on Andy Carroll however after the on-loan Liverpool forward continued his rehabilitation from injury away with the England squad.

Meanwhile, Southampton have been hit by the news that record signing Gaston Ramirez will be missing for at least a month due to complications surrounding what had been seen as a previously innocuous dead leg suffered before the international break.

Elsewhere, Nigel Adkins will be without the services of Danny Butterfield, Jack Cork, Tadanari Lee and Frzer Richardson as he looks for Southampton’s first points on the road but Nathaniel Clyne will at least be fit to return.
