Abramovich eyes Chelsea move for Busquets

Sunday 21 October 2012

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to throw his transfer budget on landing Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets at the end of the season, The Mirror reports.

Sergio Busquets

The 24 year old midfielder has made a name for himself at the Nou Camp and is a regular Spanish international, as well as playing regularly in the Barcelona first team. Abramovich is eager to add to his talented Chelsea squad and Busquets is the next target, as the Blues look to build on last season’s Champions League success.

Barca have warned off Manchester City already, but Abramovich is hopeful that a big transfer fee will persuade the Catalan side to part with Busquets. Chelsea are keen to continue their big spending and with word spreading that Busquets wants to leave Spain for the Premier League, Abramovich is at the front of the queue to bring in the Spanish international.

With Frank Lampard nearing the end of his contract and still a target for MLS side LA Galaxy, Busquets could be a welcome addition to Chelsea’s central midfield. The 24 year old is seen as a replacement for John Obi Mikel in the sitting role, which allows the multi-talented Chelsea attack to provide goals, much like their 4-2 victory over Tottenham on Saturday.
