Adebayor ready to quit Spurs

Sunday 21 October 2012

Emmanuel Adebayor is prepared to leave White Hart Lane for pastures new, despite only joining the club permanently in the summer, The Daily Mail reports.

Emmanuel Adebayor

The Togolese international spent last season on loan at Spurs and enjoyed his time under former boss Harry Redknapp, but the case is completely different this time around. Andre Villas-Boas prefers Jermain Defoe in the lone striker role and that leaves Adebayor on the bench, just like he was in Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Chelsea at White Hart Lane. The 28 year old scored 17 goals in 32 Premier League games last season, but has managed only three substitute appearances this season.

Villas-Boas and his backroom staff did not think Adebayor was fit enough due to the on-off nature of his transfer and kept him at bay after his move. Now the 28 year old is raring to go, but the Spurs boss has not given him the chance to impress and the former Manchester City striker is looking elsewhere. Europe will be his preferred destination, because of the lofty wages Adebayor receives, and potential suitors will get to see the striker in action at the African Cup of Nations in January.

Adebayor has returned to the international scene following his retirement after the Togo team bus was attacked in 2010 by gunmen.

The striker said: “I’m very happy, because Togo are back. We now have a very good team that can be a threat. The entire nation has not rejoiced like this for a long time. Something new is happening and I am glad to be a part of it. Togo is back.”
