Atletico target Man Utd striker Hernandez as Falcao replacement

Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez is top of Atletico Madrid’s wish list to replace Radamel Falco should the in-demand Colombia striker move to the Premier League with either Chelsea or Manchester City, the Daily Mail has reported.

The newspaper adds that it is now thought Falcao will be on the move as early as January, with both Champions League winners Chelsea and Premier League champions City competing with French side Paris Saint-Germain for Falcao’s services. Whoever snaffles the signature of Falcao will only do so after paying the £46m release clause in his contract, the Mail claims.

Atletico will then use a portion of that money to meet United’s £8m asking price for Hernandez, the Mexico international who has fallen out of favour under Sir Alex Ferguson. Hernandez has started only one Premier League game this season, appearing to fall behind Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck in the United pecking order.

It has been a swift fall from grace for Hernandez, a £7m 2010 signing who netted 20 goals in his first season at Old Trafford, as well as starting the Champions League final defeat to Barcelona that same season. Fiorentina are also said to be interested in the man known as Chicarito.
