Liverpool want Sturridge and Walcott in January transfer window

Brendan Rodgers will push for a double addition to his Liverpool strike force when the January transfer window opens by attempting to bring Daniel Sturridge and Theo Walcott to Anfield from Chelsea and Arsenal respectively, the Daily Mail has reported.

Liverpool’s problems in the forward line are well-documented but were compounded by the injury to Fabio Borini, a fractured foot that looks likely to rule the Italian out of action until the New Year. That leaves only Luis Suarez as an experienced striker Rodgers can call on.

The newspaper adds however that it is far from certain either player will be willing or able to join Liverpool. Chelsea had been open to allowing Sturridge to leave Stamford Bridge on loan in an effort to assuage the England international, unhappy at his lack of match action, but it is now claimed Chelsea will only consider a £15m permanent deal to help fund the signing of Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid.

Walcott, meanwhile, is in the last year of his Arsenal contract and could open negotiations with clubs outside England in January while seeing out the final months of his deal at the Emirates Stadium still competing in the Champions League, something he could not do with Liverpool and something Walcott is thought to be unwilling to give up.
