Wenger admits concern at Arsenal league position

Arsene Wenger has revealed his unhappiness at Arsenal's early-season form after their disappointing 1-0 defeat at Norwich on Saturday saw them sink to ninth place, a full 10 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.

The Gunners failed to fire against a Norwich side that had not previously won this season, as well as conceded nine goals in their last two league outings, but could muster no response to Grant Holt’s first-half opener.

According to the Daily Mail, Wenger has revealed concern is rising at the Emirates.

The gap is very unpleasant,” said the 63-year-old.

We had an opportunity that Tottenham could win [against Chelsea] and we could win, and we both lost. That of course makes the gap a lot bigger.

You cannot say you do not worry about that, but what is more disappointing is that we could not score. After we went 1-0 down we had the ball for 70 minutes and could not score a goal.

Wenger went on to question his side’s mentality after they were punished for a slow start to proceedings at Carrow Road.

We have to face the reality that if you are not completely ready in the Premier League, then you have chance,” Wenger continued.

It is a good lesson but I would have preferred not to get it, because if you need lessons like that you will stand there at the end of the season and be full of regrets.

Arsenal will look to bounce back by continuing their 100% record in the Champions League so far this season with victory at home to German side Schalke. However, the Gunners will have to beware that the Bundesliga outfit will arrive in London with confidence high after victory in the Ruhr derby against Dortmund on Saturday evening.
