Shakhtar star Willian wants Tottenham move to link up with Villas-Boas
Willian has admitted he would welcome the chance to play for either Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Daily Mail, with the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder describing Spurs’ Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas as a friend.
Villas-Boas has long been an admirer of Willian, first trying to bring him to Stamford Bridge and this summer renewing his interest and attempting to make the Brazilian a Tottenham player. Willian had been close to a move to Chelsea last summer after the Shakhtar manager, Mircea Lucescu, signalled his agreement, but the transfer collapsed over the fee.
Willian has revealed, however, ahead of Shakhtar’s meeting with Chelsea in the Champions League, that he has been in regular contact with Villas-Boas, to the point of a friendship between the pair developing. The 24-year-old added that he would find it difficult to choose between playing for Chelsea or Tottenham, and that the presence of Villas-Boas could be a deciding factor.
He said: “I mean, Tottenham is a big club and it has a good person in charge. Andre Villas-Boas wanted to bring me to Chelsea and also tried at Tottenham.
“He always sends me messages. We are always in touch, and he has become a friend, for sure. And Chelsea is Chelsea. They are a great team, with amazing players and are the champions of Europe.
“I would love to play for either of those clubs.”
