David Silva has returned to Spain for further treatment on his troublesome hamstring injury and will miss Manchester City’s must-win Champions League fixture with the champions of Holland, Ajax, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Silva was in with a slight chance of making the squad for the Wednesday evening meeting when City’s assistant manager, Brian Kidd, suggested the player would face a late fitness test, but it is now known that rather than travel to Amsterdam with his teammates, Silva has gone to Spain for what the Telegraph describes as “intensive treatment” on the injury picked up on international duty during Spain’s 1-1 draw with France.

The newspaper continues by revealing that not only will Silva miss the Champions League encounter with Ajax but also the weekend’s Premier League match against Swansea City, according to manager Roberto Mancini. The earliest game Silva will be considered for is the return date with Ajax, as the Dutch side travel to Manchester on November 6.
