Arsene Wenger has backed his Arsenal side to respond following their shock 1-0 loss at Norwich on Saturday, a defeat which leaves them 10 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.

However, according to the Daily Telegraph, despite that disappointment, Wenger is confident his side can recover to take a third consecutive victory in Champions League Group B against Schalke on Wednesday and thus all but secure qualification into the knockout stage.

I hope [the Norwich defeat] will have a positive impact,” Wenger said.

It was a shock to the system, but you have to give credit to Norwich because they played well, were completely committed and they deserved the win.

Maybe we underrated the difficulty we would face,” Wenger added. “But the Premier League is the Premier League - if you are not ready for the fight you will always have bad surprises.

The Gunners are aiming to reach the knockout stages of the European Cup for the 12th consecutive season and are currently top of Group B with a maximum six points, two ahead of their German opposition.

Huub Stevens’ Bundesliga outfit will arrive in London in high spirits after defeating local rivals Dortmund in the Ruhr derby on Saturday night.
