Southampton target out-of-favour Tottenham defender Dawson
Southampton have turned their attentions to England international defender Michael Dawson as manager Nigel Adkins looks to shore up the leakiest defence in the Premier League. The Saints have shipped an average of three goals a game (24 in their eight played so far) since their promotion from the Championship.
Thus, the Mirror reports that Adkins, who has already signalled the club’s ambitions by breaking their transfer record for the signing of Uruguayan international midfielder Gaston Ramirez in the summer, has made the signing of Dawson a priority once the transfer window re-opens in January.
28-year-old Dawson was a regular at Tottenham under Harry Redknapp but after the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas at White Hart Lane in the summer, has been deemed surplus to requirements in North London.
Indeed, only an injury to defender Younes Kaboul curtailed the four-times capped England man from departing for QPR in the summer.
However, despite going on to make seven appearances so far this season in all competitions, reports indicate that Dawson could be allowed to leave for £7.5million.
