Lampard a doubt for Chelsea's Premier League meeting with Man Utd

Wednesday 24 October 2012

Frank Lampard could miss Chelsea’s Premier League fixture with Manchester United this weekend after the midfielder suffered a re-occurrence of the injury that kept him out of the last round of England games during the Blues’ Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk, the Daily Mail has reported.

Frank Lampard leaves the field

Lampard played just 15 minutes in Ukraine before he had to be withdrawn due to the calf injury, with Chelsea going on to suffer a 2-1 defeat that leaves their progression to the next round of the Champions League in doubt. If Chelsea do not get past the group stage, it would be the first time the holders of the trophy fell at the first hurdle.

The extent of Lampard’s injury will be discovered on Thursday when the results of a scan from the day before are revealed. Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo noted that there had been no signs of injury before the match, and added that when Lampard had to be replaced it hampered a great deal the Chelsea game plan.
