Florent Malouda could be set to escape the Chelsea sidelines with a move to Brazilian side Santos, the Daily Mirror has reported.

However, Santos would struggle to match Malouda’s £80,000 per week wage at Stamford Bridge, with the suggestion airing that Chelsea may need to release Malouda on a free transfer before Santos can make their move.

Santos are not thought to be the only interested party either, with Vasco Da Gama understood to be monitoring the situation while Lyon are also said to be considering a move for the player they sold to Chelsea in 2007.

Malouda made almost 200 appearances for Lyon between 2003 and 2007, winning the Ligue 1 trophy four times with the club. His wife however is Brazilian, the Mirror reports, offering an emotional attachment to the South American nation.

Despite making more than 200 appearances in his five years at Chelsea, Malouda has been cast aside by Roberto Di Matteo, told he has no future at the club and instructed to train with the youth team rather than the first team.
