Arsene Wenger has attempted to tie down three of his young English stars to longer contracts with Arsenal, but Theo Walcott, who has recently turned down a new deal with the Gunners, is not amongst them, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Defender Kieran Gibbs and midfield pair Emmanuel Frimpong and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all in the early stages of having their contracts renewed, with Gibbs in the final two years of his existing deal, Frimpong a candidate to leave on loan even if he signs a new contract, and Oxlade-Chamberlain in talks over a five-year contract extension.

Walcott however has passed up an offer of a new, £75,000 per week contract, and, as his current deal is due to expire in the summer, could be sold in January to avoid the possibility of Walcott walking away for free at the end of the season.

The Mirror adds there are four clubs monitoring Walcott’s situation, three from the Premier League and one, Juventus, from abroad. Walcott will be able to speak with clubs from outside England as of January, while Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are the English outfits in pursuit of the England international.
