Giggs feels Man Utd cannot afford to lose to Chelsea

Ryan Giggs believes his Manchester United side must come away from Sunday’s table-topping showdown at Stamford Bridge without losing.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are currently four points behind Chelsea after eight games played but according to the Manchester Evening News, Giggs is well aware that defeat in West London would see the European champions seven points clear of the Red Devils, a large gap even at this early stage of the season.

We recognise we cannot afford to let Chelsea get too far ahead in the title race,” said the 38-year-old.

They are four points in front and have got off to a good start so it is a big game. Chelsea are a talented team. They have changed their personnel with Oscar, Hazard coming in and Mata is playing well this season. Then you have Torres as their number one striker.

Only time will tell if they are better. But you know you are up against a very good team when you pay Chelsea. They have always had that experience and power.

Man Utd will come into the game high on confidence as the only English side to win in the Champions League in midweek, but only after repeating the familiar pattern of coming back after conceding early goals, this time against Portuguese outfit Braga at Old Trafford.

There are two ways of looking at us giving teams a goal start,” continued Giggs.

Obviously we are pleased that we are able to come back and show great character in the games to be able to do that. We have the quality and the goals in the team. But you cannot go throughout a season going behind and having to rely on the lads up-front to score the goals. It is something we have looked at and are still looking at.
