Liverpool goalkeeper Jones relishing clash with Anzhi's Eto'o

Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones has revealed he has no fears about facing legendary Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o, with the former Barcelona and Inter man set to spearhead Anzhi Makhachkala’s attack in the two sides’ Europa League clash at Anfield.

Reserve goalkeeper Jones is set to make rare consecutive appearances for Liverpool as he continues to deputise for the injured Pepe Reina and could be in for a busy evening against Guus Hiddink’s Russian financial heavyweights, with Eto’o their leading name.

However, according to the Daily Telegraph, the Australian is certainly not looking toward Thursday night’s clash with trepidation. “For me, playing against whoever, it doesn’t particularly bother me which player it is,” said the 30-year-old.

It is the same idea when you go out, which is that you don’t want to concede goals. Obviously Eto’o is a fantastic player and has been for a number of years at the top. You know [as a goalkeeper] you are going to have to be on top of your game every day with the likes of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard anyway. It is just about making sure you concentrate and do the right things.

As well as Eto’o, Anzhi, who have been bankrolled in recent years by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov, also contain ex-Premier League players Christopher Samba and Yuriy Zhirkov in their ranks, while another big game, Lassana Diarra, will miss the Anfield clash with a knee injury.
