Premier League pair Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have been told to forget about signing Marseille striker Loic Remy once the January transfer window opens, as the French club’s manager, Elie Baup, insists the player is not for sale, ESPN has reported.

Loic Remy

Remy has been particularly linked with Tottenham, who will lose Emmanuel Adebayor to the Africa Cup of Nations in the New Year, with Spurs Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas a known admirer of Remy.

Villas-Boas’ successor at Chelsea, Roberto Di Matteo, is also said to be in the market for a striker and Remy could fit the bill, catching the eye of his suitors by scoring 20 goals in Ligue 1 last season.

The 25-year-old has struggled to hit the same heights in the new campaign after being dogged by a thigh injury that also ruled him out of participation at Euro 2012, scoring only twice in nine appearances thus far, but Baup remains adamant that Remy is going nowhere.

Baup added: “ In my opinion, there is no question [of a sale]. He is here for the whole season.

The club have always counted on him. Unfortunately, he suffered several small physical problems, but the troubles are behind him. A lot of things are happening at the moment and his form is vital for our results, which are more important.
