Swansea boss Laudrup expects Man City backlash

Michael Laudrup is bracing himself for what he believes will be an emphatic Manchester City response to their defeat in the Champions League when he takes his Swansea City side to the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League, the BBC has reported.

City lost 3-1 to Ajax in Amsterdam, with the Premier League champions marooned at the bottom of Group D, yet to win in the competition this season and having suffered two defeats in their opening three games. City have only a point to their name with nine more available, leaving 10 points as the maximum they can achieve - the same total that saw City eliminated at the group stage last season.

But while City have struggled in Europe they have had no such trouble at home, keeping in touching distance of league leaders Chelsea thanks to a late Edin Dzeko brace against West Bromwich Albion last week. The 2-1 victory leaves City four points behind Chelsea, who play Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Laudrup said: “It's always a difficult game, even more difficult now after what happened [against Ajax]. I don't know how many changes they'll do but I'm sure the 11 that go on the pitch want to show the crowd they're still here, want to win [and] want to compete for the title.
